Great staff and great programs!
This facility leaves a lot to be desired. While my husband and I work out here daily and we are mostly satisfied with the equipment, the athletic programs leave a lot to be desired. My son has played two or three sports here each yearfor the past two, almost three years, and while we’ve been satisfied with the coaches themselves, the management and organization from the YMCA itself is awful. With several of the sports they’ve changed the start date of the first practice without informing any parents about the change. They’ll push the start date back by a week, yet not extend the season by a week to make up for it. I would also guess that we’ve had as many cancelled practices/games as we have had actual practices/games combined. They’ll cancel practice when the slightest opportunity arises, but getting a makeup game or practice is like pulling teeth. Actually, pulling teeth might be more common than makeup games at this particular YMCA. It’s unfortunate for the children that the management here doesn’t seem to understand the importance of regular practices and consistency, even for children just beginning their athletic journey. How is a child expected to learn a sport if they only get to participate in half of the practices? I could tell you at least twenty other parents who share my same opinions and experiences but are too afraid to express them because the politics at the Y seem to play a huge role in how things are ran and how members are treated. Unfortunately, this is a small town and there aren’t many other options and I believe that in and of itself is why things are done the way that they are. Who cares if your patrons are happy when you know that they have nowhere else to go, right?
I've only been there once. I was very impressed with how willing they were to help and serve. Also great facilities.
I wish I could give zero stars but oh well. The director, Doug Saunders, of this facility is not interested in your satisfaction, he's interested in your wallet and what's inside of it. I signed up for the mommy and me swim lessons. Our last class was cancelled due to weather conditions, there was no scheduled make-up class! As I am not a member, and never will be, I had to pay full price. He had no intention on offering a make-up! Instead, he offered to just sign me up for another class and give me a credit for one class. Finally I had to TELL him what the right thing would be to do, to let me and my baby attend the first class of the next course so she could get her certificate. He didn't seem happy that he wasn't going to get more money, but he reluctantly agreed. I have also heard other horror stories of his unprofessional attitude and will not even realease contact information for the Board. Hearing from a long time member, the childwatch isn't much better! When a child hurts another child, the whoever is in charge has no intention of correcting the child, instead they just brush it off and nothing is done! How can I send my child to their watch knowing my child won't be WATCHED?! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND WORK OUT SOMEWHERE ELSE.
